In un'intervista rilasciata all'NME Kevin Shields afferma di essere sicuro che la band ritornerà in studio "a meno che non muoiano o succeda qualcosa di brutto". Visto che sono anni che si dà per certa l'uscita del cofanetto che raccoglierebbe gli EP tanto desiderati (e pagati) dai collezionisti, chissà se anche questa notizia non sia l'ennesimo bluff di Shields.

Se fosse tutto vero, sarebbe il ritorno sulle scene di una delle band più influenti degli anni 90. L'ultimo loro lavoro, Loveless, uscito nel 1991, rimane ad oggi probabilmente il disco più importante della decade a venire. Incrociamo le dita.

Otakatroi e Spread Your Legs sono i due gruppi che rappresenteranno la provincia di Lecce alle finali regionali di Arezzo Wave Band che si terranno a Grottaglie sabato 17 marzo.

La giuria, composta da Clara Longo, speaker di Rete 8 e conduttrice di un programma dedicato alle band emergenti su Canale 8, Marco Leopizzi, laureato in Beni Musicali e caporedattore della rivista on-line specializza in musica “musicaround.net” , e Nicola Pace, musicista laureato in Beni Musicali con una tesi in Storia della musica contemporanea e collaboratore del mensile Coolclub.it, ha avuto un compito non proprio facile nel giudicare i dodici partecipanti, tutti di altissima qualità, che si sono affrontanti dal 14 al 16 febbraio al Jack'n Jill di Cutrofiano tra pop e metal, suoni innovativi e rock, mediterraneo e cross over.

La prima band classificata è stata quella degli Otakatroi poiché, come si legge nella motivazione, "rappresentano la proposta più originale. Eclettici nel live, nella loro musica si riscontrano influenze che svariano dal mediterraneo al prog, dalla psichedelia all'elettronica il tutto miscelato con un forte impatto personale". Il progetto Otakatroi (la traduzione più o meno letterale è “cerca che trova”) nella sua veste attuale prende corpo nell’estate 2003 con l’ingresso di Roberto e Romain. L’intento, fin dall’inizio, è quello di muoversi su vari generi musicali cercando un sound personale. Ad oggi la band ha realizzato due promo in attesa di registrare il primo album ufficiale.

Gli Spread Your Legs hanno meritato il secondo posto grazie alla loro travolgente esibizione live che ha fatto ballare tutti. Spread your legs è un progetto di recente formazione in quanto attivo solo alla fine dell’estate 2006. inizialmente il nucleo originario è composto da tre elementi (basso,chitarra e batteria), poi subito dopo si affiancano una seconda chitarra e la voce. I componenti, cinque ragazzi twenty-something hanno suonato precedentemente in piccole realtà locali (Slips, Supersquillo, Madeleine, Vellutata Sincronica) e si ritrovano tra le mani una manciata di canzoni autoprodotte cui manca solo la dimensione live.

The View sono un gruppo di ragazzi scozzesi che fanno punk-rock da Dryburgh, un distretto di Dundee. Sono attivi musicalmente dal 2005, ed hanno suonato su palchi con Babyshambles, Primal Scream e The Undertones. Il gruppo inizialmente suonavo nel The Bayview pub a Menzieshill altro distretto di Dundee, non lontano da Dryburgh. Da questo pub, the band prese il nome.

La band è sotto la 1965 Records e il singolo di debutto, Wasted Little DJs, è uscito l'estate del 2006. Prodotti da Owen Morris, che lo ricordiamo negli studi di registrazione accanto ad Oasis e The Verve. "Hats Off to the Buskers" album d'esordio è uscito il 22 gennaio 2007

¡Forward, Russia! si sono formati nel 2004 a Leeds dallo smembramento dei The Black Helicopters, di cui Tom e Rob facevano parte. La loro musica fu subito notata da famosi magazine come Drowned In Sound e NME che definì il loro modo di far musica un "convulso punk-funk che brilla da Leeds". Nell'Aprile 2005, i ¡Forward, Russia! incidono "Nine", una compilation dei 7-inch singoli con This Et Al. Questo singolo fu recensito dall'NME, che lo inserì nel loro 'Radar'.

Hanno fatto numerose date con i We Are Scientists nel 2006 e suonato con i The Automatic, The Long Blondes, Howling Bells e Boy Kill Boy nell'NME New Music Tour.

Enon è una band fondata da John Schmersal (guitar/vocals), Rick Lee e Steve Calhoon. Sono di Philadelphia, sebbene fanno parte della scena indie di New York. Schmersal faceva parte dei Brainiac e ha fondato gli Enon (villagio dell' Ohio) con Lee e Calhoon dopo la morte di Timmy Taylor (camtante dei Brainiac) e il successivo scioglimento.

Lee e Calhoon hanno fatto parte anche degli Skeleton Key.

Dopo il primo album Believo! del 1999, Calhoon lascia la band e subentrano Toko Yasuda (bass/vocals) e Matt Schulz (drums).

Con la nuova line up nel 2002 esce il secondo lavoro The Faint.

In seguito anche Lee abbandona il gruppo poco prima del terzo album Hocus Pocus (2003), ed ancora una collezione di singloli con un DVD bonus chiamato Lost Marbles and Exploded Evidence (2005).

Da Glasgow i The Cinematics sono una giovane band che ricalca il suono dai The Clash ai Talking Heads. The Dykeenies band nata nell'estate del 2005 nel Cumbernauld in Scozia.
Il loro primo concerto fu al ABC2 di Glasgow sul finire del 2005 e già nel gennaio dell'anno successivo vinsero il primo premio al concorso Your Sound per band emergenti. Firmarono un contratto con la King Tut's Recordings, che lanciò il singolo 'New Ideas/Will It Happen Tonight' nell'estate 2006.

Spalla ai concerti dei Mystery Jets, Maximo Park e The Fratellis, la band firma un altro contratto con la Lavolta Records così da esser più volte citata dal magazine inglese NME, e suonare nel famoso NME Rock'n'Roll Riot Tour con The Fratellis, The Maccabees e The Horrors.

I The Stills sono una indie rock band canadese. I quattro componenti iniziali, Tim Fletcher, Dave Hamelin, Liam O'Neil and Oliver Corbeil, si sono conosciuti dall'età di 12 anni e hanno suonato in tantissimi gruppi musicali prima di formare i The Stills nel 2000. Sono tutti studenti di materie artistiche-musicali alle università di Montreal e Quebec. I primi lavori musicali gli fecero durante una gita di 2 mesi verso New York City, dove registrarono alcuni pezzi con un registratore a 4 tracce. Il primo EP "Rememberese" è datato 2003 poi l'album "Logic Will Break Your Heart" e successivamente il tour con Interpol e Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Dal 2006 entrano a far parte dell'etichetta Vice Records.

Gli Hot Chip sono electro-pop band britannica: Al è di Leeds, mentre gli altri sono di Londra. Il loro album d'esordio, Coming On Strong, è uscito nel 2004.

Dopo i numerosissimi concerti dal vivo, incluse le partecipazioni a grandi rassegne musicali come Glastonbury, Sónar, Benicassim, Electric Picnic, Bestival, the Reading and Leeds Festivals and the Summer Sundae festival, tra il 2005/06, la band si può vantare di avere 2 singoli nella classifica dei primi 4 eP in UK - "Over and Over" "Boy from School" per l'appunto. Due curiosità: il loro video musicale di "Over and Over" è diretto da Nima Nourizadeh;nel 2006, gli Hot Chip sono stati invitati dall'etichetta indie di Toronto (la Paper Bag Records) per contribuire all'album "See You on the Moon!": canzoni per ragazzi di tutte l'età e il loro contributo per la compilation lo hanno dato con la canzone "I Can't Wake Up".

I Club11 sono un gruppo di Padova nato nell'estate 2004, in contemporanea con l'esplosione dell'indie rock-punk-funk (come altro definire quest'insieme di suoni elettronici, chitarre sfrenate e ritmi serrati?...) di matrice britannica. Muovendosi su un binario parallelo a quello su cui scivola via la musica d'oltremanica la band veneta è ipegnata nella promozione della propria musica in Italia e all'estero.
All'attivo un gran numero di concerti, i più importanti dei quali al Covo con The Cooper Temple Clause, Forward Russia e al Transilvania con The Brakes, hanno registrato recentemente un EP, intitolato "Strange guys on the street", che è in imminente uscita. Con il proposito di promuoversi a più non posso, e nella speranza che la nostra musica arrivi nelle vostre case, ci stiamo preparando per farvi passare dei concerti memorabili e rendervi testimoni di qualcosa di promettente.
La loro musica mira a colpire diretta il pubblico e a far ballare.

I Goose si sono formati nell'estate del 2000 a Kortrijk, Belgio. Dapprima come la cover band degli AC/DC, ma poi prendendo uno stile personale con canzoni proprie e l'aggiunta di sintetizzatori. Dal 2002 in poi inizia così il loro cammino discografico e il loro singolo di debutto "Audience" registato con Teo Miller. La Coca Cola lo usò per lo spot TV in varie parti d'Europa. Spinta che gli fece ottenere il contratto con la Skint Records nel 2006 e il lancio del nuovo EP "Black Gloves" nel Luglio dello stesso anno.

La Puglia che mischia migliaia di persone e un suono. Al centro del tacchetto dello stivale: Bari, 14-15-16 dicembre. Sul palco del teatro Kismet. Sopra e sotto. Una regione provinciale che guarda in alto. A testa alta. Con l’orgoglio e una boccia di vino. Con Controradio (controweb.it) che organizza e il movimento che ci sta attorno.

I Kings of Convenience sono Erlend Øye e Eirik Glambek Bøe, provenienti da Bergen, una città della Norvegia. Il loro primo gruppo, chiamato Skog (che in norvegese significa "foresta") con due loro amici, e hanno pubblicato sotto questo nome l'EP Tom Tids Tale. Questo progetto fu però subito abbandonato e i due decisero di fondare i Kings of Convenience. La loro musica è caratterizzata da sonorità delicate, rigorosamente acustiche, voci rilassanti, e da complesse e fantasiose evoluzioni melodiche con la chitarra. Entrambi i componenti del gruppo scrivono e cantano le loro canzoni.

La band nasce nel 2002 grazie a Johnny Borrell, ex bassista dei Libertines, che fonda con Bjorn Agren, Carl Dalemo e Christian Smith-Pancorvo i Razorlight. Grazie all’album d’esordio, intitolato "Up All Night", la band partecipa nel 2005 al Live8 di Hyde Park a Londra e successivamente al progetto caritatevole Help-A day in the life, registrando il brano inedito Kirby’s House. Un anno dopo i Razorlight firmano la prima parte della fase francese del tour dei Rolling Stones.

Jarvis Cocker, personaggio sui generis ed ex Pulp, splendida band brit-pop autrice di pezzi storici come "Common People", "Disco 2000", con cui raggiunsero il successo nel 1995. Dal 2001, i componenti decisero di congelare la band dedicandosi ognuno ai propri progetti, e Jarvis oltre a partecipazioni a film (come Hatty Potter), ha finalmente pubblicato il suo disco d'esordio come solista. Intitolato semplicemente "Jarvis".
